Austria's Coop Himmelb(l)au architectural firm unveiled the design for the expansion of Dubai World Central (Al Maktoum International Airport) (ME Construction News, 11-Sep-2024). The expanded airport will be able to handle 260 million passengers p/a with five parallel runways, artificial intelligence (AI) passenger processing capabilities and 407 gates. The project is scheduled to enter the planning phase in 2024, with Phase I of the terminal to be complete by 2032.

Delivering goods through drones is about to get easier in Dubai, as the completion of the "Dubai Horizons" project's second phase was announced by Dubai Municipality today.

The project will integrate low-altitude airspace into building regulations using 3D GIS and a collaborative platform for stakeholders. 3D GIS enables urban planners to map out the real world by using 3 dimensions, including depth.

The Sharjah Airport Authority formally entered into a contractual agreement with Binladin Contracting Group to commence the construction of the West Side Terminal
within the framework of the Sharjah International Airport Expansion (Package 1). The foundation stone for the project was ceremoniously placed by
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The development, with an estimated cost of USD 336.25 million (AED 1.235 billion) is scheduled for completion by 2027.
