The Sharjah Airport Authority formally entered into a contractual agreement with Binladin Contracting Group to commence the construction of the West Side Terminal
within the framework of the Sharjah International Airport Expansion (Package 1). The foundation stone for the project was ceremoniously placed by
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The development, with an estimated cost of USD 336.25 million (AED 1.235 billion) is scheduled for completion by 2027.
Spanning an impressive 190,000 square meters, the passenger terminal is poised to undergo a comprehensive transformation.
The expansion includes the segregation of arrivals and departures, an extension of the passenger terminal, the upgrading of the main building,
and a modernization overhaul of systems and facilities. To facilitate smoother passenger movement, there will be an increase in the number of bridges,
accompanied by the construction of a dedicated VIP building. Across the entire airport premises, a series of comprehensive updates are set to be implemented.
This expansion development is strategically designed to streamline passenger flow,
elevate overall capacity, contribute to enhanced speed and efficiency of movement,
and bolster operational performance. With a primary objective of accommodating up to 20 million passengers annually, the initiative is poised to significantly augment
Sharjah International Airport’s standing and functionality.
One Works, in collaboration with our Air Traffic Management partner, IBG, has been officially commissioned by the Sharjah Airport Authority. The joint venture is tasked with the peer review and design enhancements, including a series of design upgrades, for the expansion of Sharjah International Airport, as well as overseeing the construction supervision activities.
This marks the beginning of a pivotal project with Sharjah Airport Authority, a distinguished firm managing one of the region’s premier air travel hubs that serves over 12 million passengers annually. The project involves various key construction and refurbishment activities:
New Passenger Terminal Building (PTB): This includes constructing a new Arrival Facility, Baggage Reclaim Hall, Inbound Automated Baggage Handling System (BHS), and new Customs Inspection Service;
New Connector Link Building: inc. new Automated BHS, Transfer Area, Food Court, and Business Lounge;
New VIP Terminal Building: Located at ground level within the footprint of New Connector Link Building;
New Concourse B for Departure: including new lounges, arrival gallery, PLBs, and stand equipment;
Construction of New Airside Facilities: extensions and improvements of existing facilities like the Fuel Hydrant System, Utility System, Aircraft Parking Stands, Apron, and roadways.
As well as several other key elements, including” new ticketing/check-in lobby for Air Arabia Airlines; a new sterile arrival corridor; a centralized screening checkpoint; a new Baggage Handling System (BHS); Expansion and refurbishment of the existing concourse; Construction of new Central Utility Plant (CUP);
and the installation of ICT/ELV Systems (Special Airport Systems, Life Safety, and Security Systems).
